I was talking this week with
administrators from the three school districts in my area for part of my AUP
paper research. I was amazed about how little they knew about where the
document they use came from. Some of the IT professionals in the districts said
they had little input in crafting the document. Every district had one common
theme that lawyers for the district had the final say about the AUP they used.
Is this common that the lawyers for school districts are crafting the AUP
documents? As I’m stating in my paper, I think teachers, administrators,
district IT professionals should be crafting this Document. This collaboration
team should evaluate future technology plans, technology use in the classroom,
protecting users and district wide security concerns. Then you can pass the
document to the lawyers. I don’t know this makes more sense to me. What do you
think?
